Artist Statement
Growing up, I was never able to express how I felt or what I thought; creating was the only way I was not only heard but also understood. This developed into a true love and passion for creating, whether it be to calm the mind, express complex emotions, or create something that brings joy. My conceptual painting work tends to focus on personal relationships and things left unsaid. In contrast, my ceramic work focuses on the simplicity of basic and timeless forms, and my everyday work on the basics of human life and what was left behind. While I do many different mediums that all have very different aesthetics, concepts, and inspiration, all of my work connects to explain how I feel, how I think, and how I want to be perceived. My time at UCF allowed me to begin connecting all my work and experiment with multimedia and mixed media concepts.
My aim is not to be understood by others but to understand myself. None of my work is ever considered “finished” in my eyes, more just ready to be digested, seen, and talked about. When looking at my work and processes, I urge you not to think of my work as an artist's portfolio but to dig deeper and realize that someone has probably been through what you have, and it's ok to speak up and find comfort in sharing. I do not consider myself a painter, illustrator, or ceramicist; I consider myself a person using art as therapy and sharing it to create a conversation that must be had, whatever that may be.
